Why is racial capitalism wrong?
One of the problems with racial capitalism is the fact that there are white institutions that strive for numeral diversity. This means that diversity is seen as the amount of non-white people engaged with or within the institution. Diversity is seen as something that only works if it is big in numbers. This does not mean that there is an actual understanding of these non-white people, these people are used to aquire a certain quota. Within the frame of reference, non-white equals non-racist. This means that the more non-white people there are, the less racist an institution would be. This superficial view on diversity causes these institutions to view non-white people as a prized commodity and something to profit of off, instead of an actual human being with their own identity. Association with non-white individuals becomes a tool to deflect from racism and discrimination. One can not define or achieve diversity on it's own. It becomes an excuse, it's like saying 'but my friend is non-white and they don't see the problem Non-whiteness is seen as social capitalism and is desired to be aquired as a shield. To not seem racist, but also to be seen as interesting and 'cultured'.

The main problem here, is that non-white people are seen as instruments to aquire something , instead of a fully socialized individual. The problem is that non-whiteness is seen as something of value, something that can be either bought or sold. Non-whiteness is seen as something that is good to posses and to capture. There is a value that is being tied to non-whiteness and in many contexts it is a signal of diversity, which is seen as a prize. Non-white people aren't included in the strive for diversity, even though they are the tool that institutions try to achieve diversity with. Racial capitalism does not benefit non-white individuals who are the source of the capital. The feelings of the people being used are not being taken into account, which causes a feeling of insecurity, which could have effect on ones self-image, as people might feel like they aren't taken seriously within society.

UT Arlington edited a black woman into their picture to seem diverse.
These are 3 completely different websites that have used the same picture to show how 'diverse' they are.
